locking hardware, such as electric strikes and Von Duprin QEL exit
devices? Do the terms amps, volts, and ohms sound foreign to you? If
so, this course is for you. This class will demystify basic electrical
concepts related to electrified door hardware and provide you with a
systematic approach to perform basic troubleshooting steps and
enable you to make simple repairs.
Course length: 1 day
Topics include
▪ Fundamentals of electricity
▪ The relationship of volts, amps, and ohms to the operation of
electrified locking hardware
▪ Power supply considerations
▪ Types and operation of common switches
▪ Wire gauge requirements
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to
▪ Explain the difference between AC & DC as well as fail safe
and fail secure devices
▪ Calculate the total amperage rating needed for a power
supply by analyzing all the loads in a circuit
▪ Use a multi-meter to check voltage, resistance and continuity
to perform basic troubleshooting steps
▪ Connect a momentary push button, Von Duprin electric strike,
and power supply
▪ Determine wire gauge requirements based on voltage,
amperage, and distance between the load and power source
▪ List 10 common causes of electrified locking hardware
malfunctions
Who should attend
▪ Facilities and maintenance personnel
▪ Anyone interested in basic electrical concepts related to
electrified locking hardware
